“We are pleased to announce that, Jessly Tejeda, 2018 Hazleton Area High School graduate, has been selected as the Hazleton Rotary Club Technical Scholarship winner” says project chair Dr. John Madden. “This is the second time we have provided a technical scholarship and we hope it will be possible to continue the practice in the future.”

The daughter of Felicia Ramos and Bernardo Tejeda, Jessly will receive a scholarship of $1000 and she will be working towards obtaining an ...LPN in Nursing from Penn State University-Hazleton Campus.

She has been employed at Bayada Home Health Care for one year and Giant Pharmacy for 2 1/2 years.

All applicants were asked to write an essay on “How volunteering makes a difference.” Quoting John Kennedy’s remarks, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country” Jessly said, “that can be changed to do what you can for your community.” Her example of serving her community was working and paying taxes which she does now with two jobs and has been doing for several years. Jessly explains “That tax money can be used to provide things for the community such as road repairs. I am proud to say I have been working and helping my community as a self-sufficient, dependable tax payer. Now that I am in the “real world” this has been a good thing for me to have learned in order to succeed.”

“I would like to thank the Hazleton Rotary Club for this scholarship, because it will be a great help. Thank you to all who took part in the decision making. I am very thankful and will put it to very good use.” Jessly explains.

We congratulate Ms. Tejeda on this achievement and are happy to offer her this scholarship assistance”, comments Dr. Madden. “Her parents and family should be very proud of her and her accomplishments!”
